St Athan Village

St Athan Primary School

St Athan’s first school was recorded in 1847.  At that time the village population was about 379.  Little information regarding this first school can be found.

The old school building, now the Old Community Centre, was built by the Rayer family in about 1860.  It continued to be used until 1966.

The current school was opened in September 1966.

The Nursery was opened in November 1995.

School

St Athan Primary School serves St Athan village, the RAF/Army Camp (East) (1.5 miles) and the surrounding areas of Eglwys Brewis, Flemingston, New Barn, Picketston, Gilston and West Aberthaw.  The school is situated in a rural setting, on Rock Road, between two farms and caters for pupils between the ages of 5 and 11.

Nursery Unit

The Nursery provides places for fifty two children, aged 3 to 4, daily.  It is staffed by one teacher and one nursery nurse who work together has a team creating a warm, caring and harmonious relationship with the children and their families.
